How Can Sensory Processing Become a Problem?
Remember, when you are working with clients who have had damage to their nervous system that the cognitive problems are secondary to the primary problem of a brain injury. Due to the brain injury, the client may be sensitive to environmental stimuli. This, in turn, can cause a condition we call Neuro-Distress. Here are some thoughts to consider: the importance of electrical energy to cognition; if you have a perceptual problem, you will have a cognitive problem; the importance of managing Neuro-Distress.

Movement, with light and color, can become a serious problem for some clients and can even cause seizures.

Tip
The use of gentle warm color can really benefit a client. Use warm colors to relax a client and brighter colors to wake up the brain. But, make sure your client is ok as you begin to initiate the use of lighter colors.
