Learning Goals:
1. Learn the many different ways that professionals are using color in their practices. Then see how the use of gentle colors without movement can really benefit a client, and try to understand how many different ways there are to use color. Visual movement with light and color can become a serious problem for some clients, even causing seizures in some cases.

2. When using Del Giacco Neuro-Art Therapy, please note that we handle the use of stimuli differently from the professionals in the book Light Years Ahead (LYA). The book, LYA, was written by Medical Professionals, Optometrists and Chiropractors. They discuss their use of color as therapy via Acupuncture, Syntonics and a variety of other methods. The primary organizer of the publication, Dr. John Downing, O.D., PhD., F.S.C.O., makes reference to "Photo Sensitivity" and lists warnings of using color and light as therapeutic modalities. The authors of LYA use light and color or magnetic energy to assist clients with a wide range of difficulties including, but not limited to, ADD, ADHD, PTSD, TBI and Learning Disabilities. We do not advocate the use of color as presented in this book. We will offer another point of view to you on how to manage clients with damaged nervous systems.

As you read through this Chapter, you will be able to distinguish how the monitored use of color can have many positive effects with less stress to the client. You will be introduced to the Neuro-Distress Factor and techniques to help your client obtain the most from your sessions. We will provide you with case studies and examples, which will help to solidify your learning from this course.

As you discover the cautions and concerns from LYA with regard to the use of sensory stimuli, consider some of the factors that need to be closely monitored when working with clients who have emotional problems and a damaged nervous system. Be mindful of the role our eyes and the midbrain play and their importance to sensory processing.
